After a lengthy break over the Christmas and New Year the Veterans were back in action this week and recorded their first home win of the season with an 8-4 victory against Apoel FC.

Forest made a sluggish start, and in the early stages Apoel belied their place at the bottom of the table and looked more likely to score, but on 19 minutes Abs Asname broke clear on the left and drove his shot past the visiting keeper.

Apoel countered well and didn’t look like a side that had lost all of its previous games and drew level on 34 minutes following some poor defending by Forest. Two minutes later they took the lead when the home defence went AWOL and gave Hussein Gozutok no chance. Forest then compounded their problems when Basir Arasan was sent off for swearing at the referee.

The numbers disadvantage seemed to spur Forest and with Suat Demeril controlling midfield, they upped their game to draw level through Yilmaz Cerko, and on the stroke of half-time Asname scored again to give Forest the lead.

Six minutes after the break Berk Emul cut in from the right to add a fourth goal, but Apoel hit back immediately to reduce the arrears.

Forest then hit a purple scoring 3 times in 5 minutes. Emul struck with a well placed shot on 61 minutes, Asname ran through to slot the ball home for his hat-trick on 64 and two minutes later Cerko made it 7-3.

Erdal Berkler scored Forest’s 8th goal with a screaming shot 6 minutes from the end, but Apoel completed the scoring with their 4th goal three minutes from time.

Elsewhere, the Under 15s beat London Bari 6-4, moving them 10 points clear of 5th-placed Snaresbrook.
