Waltham Forest continued their unbeaten start to 2015 when they came from behind to beat Globe Rangers 3-2 and climb to 5th in the table.
With captain Besir Arasan suspended, Berk Emul took the armband and led from the front. The opening 20 minutes saw both defences looking firm, but on 23 minutes Emul broke through and rounded the keeper to give Forest the lead. Globe fought back, but found Forest keeper Mesut Aksu in good form dealing with several goalbound efforts. Forest had a chance to double their lead, but Suat Demeril shot wide from the penalty spot after he had been brought down.
However, the home side were not to be denied, and on the stroke of half time a glancing header eluded Aksu to go in off the post. Just after the break Cunali Yavuz was judged to have handled in the box and Globe made no mistake from 12 yards.
Forest responded well and a long ball into the box was only parried by the Globe keeper and Abs Asname was fastest to react and slot home from a tight angle on 48 minutes.
Forest withstood sustained pressure from Globe who forced endless corners, but Forest broke away and Demeril made up for his first half miss to drive home on 65 minutes to put the visitors 3-2 up.
Globe fought hard to get back on terms, but Forest held firm to claim 7 points from their 3 games this month.
Waltham Forest Veterans entertain Winchmore Hill at Wadham Lodge Astroturf on Sunday 25th January, kick-off 12.00.
Elsewhere, the Under 16s beat Barking 2-1, moving to the top of their Eastern Junior Alliance division.
