This is one of those grounds with no pub of any sort anywhere in the vicinity, though the club bar did have some decent bottled beer last time we were there. The nearest pint of real ale is a long way down the road in Wood Green, at the Spouter’s Corner by the tube station. The former common land at this location had a long history as a venue for political gatherings and “spouting” orators (the equivalent of Hyde Park’s Speaker’s Corner), and Wetherspoons have commemorated that in the pub’s name. Like all Wetherspoons it provides a reliable offering of good beers and meals at reasonable prices – if only the company’s general excellence in these respects extended to the provision of sufficient bar staff…
