On leaving Stansted Mountfitchet station you come to the King’s Arms (Greene King IPA and Abbot), but carry on into Lower Street and you’ll find the Queen’s Head, a small, busy “drinkers’ pub” refurbished after flooding in 2014 and offering two changing beers from national breweries. In the same street, the Dog & Duck offers more Greene King while the Cork House is a tapas bar which also sells Sharp’s Doom Bar.

Up on Silver Street, the Linden House offers five-star luxury and two varying real ales, while the more down-to-earth Cock has yet more Greene King, Speckled Hen and reasonably priced food.
