Cheshunt & FC Romania – The Beer Hunter’s Guide

Don’t get the train to Cheshunt because it’s a long way from the ground! Get off at the stop before – Theobalds Grove – where you’ll also find a choice of three pubs.

Right outside the station is the Wheatsheaf, a good solid no-nonsense McMullen’s house with a friendly welcome and well-kept ale.

A little further along you’ll find the Moon & Cross (a reference to Waltham Cross which is a short distance away). This is a Wetherspoon’s, which always guarantees a range of good beers and pub food at reasonable prices. Not everybody is a ‘spoons fan, but they’re reliable, you know what you’re going to get and they’re thriving while much of the pub trade is struggling, so they’re clearly doing a lot right. If only their pubs had more staff behind the bar….

Not far away is the Vine, another McMullen’s pub, described by CAMRA’s excellent Whatpub website as a cosy retreat with a roaring fire and a large garden.
