Burnham has a whole string of pubs, most of which are OK without being as great as you might hope in such an attractive riverside town.
Burnham on Crouch (immortalised by the great Ian Dury in “Billericay Dickie”). However, it’s worth dropping into the staunchly traditional New Welcome Sailor, 400 yards from the station (again, in the opposite direction to the ground).
This spotless, old-fashioned community local offers Sharp’s Doom Bar, locally-brewed Wibblers Dengie IPA and Weston’s Rosie’s Pig cider, but has no truck with food beyond crisps and peanuts. If you have a bit of time to while away, you can play such traditional pub games as shove ha’penny, table skittles and darts.
