Abberley, Jay

This post is the first in a daily series which aims to catalogue the careers of every player to have played for Leyton Pennant and Waltham Forest F.C..

Jay made first came to Waltham Forest at the start of the 2007-8 season under Danny Honeyball, after impressing in pre-season.

Abberley hung around at Forest after Honeyball’s departure, but not for that long, dropping out of senior football until 2010, when he made one appearance for Bishop’s Stortford in the Conference South under Gordon Boateng.

Between 2012 and 2015 Abberley spent periods of time at Barking, making a total of 42 appearances for the club, but only one in his last season in 2014-15.

He reappeared to make one appearance in 2015 for Hale End Athletic in the Amateur Football Combination, but hasn’t been seen playing regularly.

He was known for a mammoth long throw which was well utilised by Honneyball’s rather direct team at the start of that season.

Outside football, Jay is a PE Teacher.
