Walthamstow Veterans played their second pre-season game on Sunday when they hosted League newcomers, Jamrock, who are based in Ealing. Both sides had regular players missing, but the visitors took an early lead when a shot was parried by Ismet Turkoglu in the home goal, and the Jamrock forward reacted to stab home the rebound. Turkoglu suffered a knee injury in making a save, and this impaired his mobility, but he still managed a number of saves before the visitors doubled their lead on 26 minutes and added a 3rd seven minutes later.

Defender Basir Arasan came off at half time with the recurrence of a dead leg incurred during his game for Hale End on Saturday, and top scorer Sezai Tasci was also struggling with a back injury, but Walthamstow did threaten to reduce the arrears. However, Jamrock added 2 more goals on 51 and 58 minutes, and a 6th late on.

Jamrock are likely to be one of the stronger teams in the Garston League this season. Walthamstow will look to strengthen their squad before the 9-a-side tournament at Winchmore Hill on 9th September.

Walthamstow have been drawn at home to Hullbridge Sports in the first round of the Essex Sunday Veterans’ Cup. Their first defence of the trophy they won last season will be at Wadham Lodge on 7th October.
