Vets suffer cup defeat

Walthamstow Veterans went into their Garston Cup tie against Tansley with a number of players missing. Ismet Turkoglu was still nursing a rib injury so midfielder Erdal Hazar went between the posts. Stow went quickly into attack and were denied by a couple of point blank saves in the opening 5 minutes. Tansley came more into the game, but Hazar and his defenders managed to limit their attempts to long range efforts. However, Tansley broke the deadlock on 15 minutes giving Hazar no chance from close range. Both sides had chances, but no more goals were added in the first half.

After the break Stow continued their search for an equaliser, but after 11 minutes a long clearance fell to a Tansley forward, who in spite of looking suspiciously offside, went on to double their lead. This seemed to knock the stuffing out of Stow and Tansley added 3 more goals in quick succession.

With 10 minutes left Erdal Bekler put Walthamstow on the score sheet, and 3 minutes later Sezai Tasci added a second, but any hope of a fight back was immediately quashed as Tansley broke away to make it 6-2 with 4 minutes to go.

Next Sunday, 21st October, we return to League action with a trip to Garston. This game will be played at Parmiters School, High Elms Lane, Garston, Herts WD25 0UU, kick 0ff 10.30
