Paul Armand came to Forest at the start of the 2004-5 season, and despite having no discernible qualities as a footballer, made 24 starts and 14 substitute appearances.
A line from the report of the 2-2 draw against Sittingbourne summed up Paul pretty well: “Then Forest had an effort through Paul Armand but he fell as he shot and his effort too went wide.”
He made his debut coming on as a substitute against Barton Rovers, and scored on his full debut, a 3-0 FA Cup win at Burnham Ramblers.
It would be in the FA Cup that summed up Paul’s time in a Forest shirt best. With Forest trailing 2-1 against Conference South Margate, Hakan Hayrettin’s men forced a series of late corners. At the end of one, the ball fell to Armand at the back post. Rather than cut it back to one of the handful of Forest bodies waiting for the tap-in, he kicked it as hard and as high as he could, the ball eventually going out for a throw-in.
Paul, or Jean-Louis, as he was sometimes called, returned the following season, (somehow even slower than before) but only made three further substitute appearances.
