Walthamstow veterans went into their quarter final on the back of 3 League defeats, but with the blustery wind behind them, were soon to dominate this tie against Wakering Sports at Cupids Country Club. However, in spite of having the majority of possession Walthamstow found it difficult to break through the home defence, who played a high back line resulting in a series of offside decisions.
When they beat the ‘trap’ the Walthamstow finishing was poor with Sezai Tasci and Erdal Bekler shooting wide. Adar Turgut and Mario Renas Seyho did force some good saves from Mark Longley in the Wakering goal. At the other end Jason Walker and Kazim Aslan kept the home forwards at bay so Ismet Turkoglu only had to deal with a couple of long-range efforts.
The stalemate was broken on 36 minutes when Tasci broke through and eluded three tackles before beating Longley to give Walthamstow the lead.
The second period continued with Walthamstow in domination, and after Ferhat Erdogan had missed a good chance, Ramazan Topal doubled their lead when Longley could only parry a low shot from Turgut and he stabbed home the rebound.
Wakering fought to get back into the game, but were mainly restricted to long-range attempts, although Turkoglu did make a low save after they broke into the box midway through the half.
Walthamstow sealed victory when Erdogan scored their third goal from close range on 79 minutes.
In the final minute Turgut was brought down in the bx, but his spot kick went wide of the left hand post.
Walthamstow now face Runwell Sports in the semi-final on 3rd February.
Next Sunday they are back in League action when they are at home to Bushey in the Garston League, kick-off 10.30.
