Broadfields United 1-3 Walthamstow

Walthamstow reached the second round of the FA Vase with an almost comfortable win over Spartan South Midlands League side Broadfields United as goals from Dwade James and Ollie Fortune gave Stow a 3-1 win.

It was a quick start from the home side as a couple of chances came and went within the opening minutes. Connor Spinks saw his curled shot saved well by James Bransgrove before Marley Anderson-Richards headed towards goal but it was a comfortable save.

Despite the quick start from the hosts, Walthamstow began to get a comfortable foothold in the game but couldn’t find the opening goal. Dwade James was almost played through before his attack was snuffed out before a couple of good runs from Callum Ibe saw his saved comfortably saved by the goalkeeper and his cross to Danny McCullock sent wide of the goal.

The pressure paid off for Walthamstow as Callum Ibe was brought down by the Broadfields keeper and Stow were awarded a penalty. Dwade James stepped up and converted to give the visitors the lead just before the 20-minute mark.

The goal sparked a barrage of Walthamstow chances but they couldn’t increase their lead before the home side had a small spell of possession and chances but they too couldn’t find a goal. Despite a couple of chances at the end of the first half, the teams went into the break with Stow leading 1-0.

It was a quick start for Walthamstow in the second half and within 8 minutes of the restart, they had a 2nd. A few good passes between Jack Folan, Danny McCullock and Callum Ibe got the ball to Dwade James who lashed home his second of the game with a first-time volley.

It was pure domination from Walthamstow as they continued to increase the pressure. Jack Folan was played through on goal but couldn’t convert his chance and he sent it just wide.

Broadfields United certainly weren’t out of the game but a scramble in the Walthamstow box was eventually cleared before they had a penalty shout waved away with the Broadfields player receiving a yellow card for simulation.

As the game got closer to its end, Ollie Fortune sealed the win for Walthamstow as he headed home the visitors third, beating the charging goalkeeper to the ball. Broadfields did get on the scoresheet but with the goal in the 5th added minute, it was nothing more than a consultation. The game ended 3-1 in favour of Walthamstow.
