We had a brief chat with Walthamstow manager Ryan Maxwell ahead of tomorrow’s game with Saffron Walden Town. Ryan spoke about new signing Steven Carvell, his prediction for tomorrow and whether he is happy with the current squad and performances.
With new signing Steven Carvell joining the team, what do you think he adds to the squad?
Steven is a very talented player, we all know that. He can strike a ball from set pieces but can also find a good pass that others might be able to see. I’m looking to get the best out of him and for Steve, he had realised he needs to fulfil his potential and I’m delighted he has come to Walthamstow.
What is your prediction for tomorrow?
Tomorrow will be a big game for Saffron Walden. For us, it’s just another game. If they lose, they are out of the title race already because at this stage they will be very much behind us with games in hand. There is a lot of pressure on them and none on us so we are going to enjoy the game and that is the name of the game. We’ve had a good training session and with them losing Louis Francis, they won’t have the same threat as they’ve had previously.
How happy are you with the squad and the season so far?
I am very happy at the moment and we’ve only conceded 4 league goals this season. As I’ve said before, we are yet to see the best out of this time and you won’t see that until the new year. There are a few players who are still getting to grips with the patterns of play but it’s all coming together so I’m happy. I working with these boys and they all love being here so it’s great.
How important will the Waltham Rabble be tomorrow?
I hope they are out in force tomorrow. The boys are grateful every time they turn out and support us so I hope they come and enjoy a good game. I also hope I see them for a beer after a good win!
