“If Maxy wasn’t here, I probably wouldn’t be here myself” – Steven Carvell

After training on Thursday, we spoke to new-signing Steven Carvell for the first time since he signed. He spoke about how he managed to sign for Stow, what his targets are for the rest of this season and how much the Waltham Rabble help him on the pitch.

How did you come about playing for Walthamstow?

I left Sporting Bengal and had nowhere to really go. Once Maxwell contacted me, it was a no-brainer because, having played against Stow a few times, I’ve seen its a great club to come to and now I’m glad to new here.

What are your aspirations as a player?

I like to get assists but also like to chip in with goals from set-pieces and free-kicks so my main focus will be the assists and then it’ll be to score as many as I can.

What are your targets and goals for this season?

Personally, I want double figures in goals and at least 20-30 assists. For Stow, I want to get promotion and win the league. That’s the focus.

Who have you most enjoyed playing with on the pitch?

Dwade and Callum. I like to play through balls and they are the most likely to link with my passes so I’m looking forward to seeing them put my through balls away.

How much of a factor did wanting to play for Ryan play in bringing you here?

It was a big factor. If Maxy wasn’t here then I probably wouldn’t be here myself.

What has it been like playing under Ryan Maxwell?

I’s been great. It’s all I’ve expected and more. Hopefully, we can keep the good form going and kick on for the rest of the season.

You’ve heard the Rabble sing and cheer on the players, how much do you think that will help you here?

It helps massively. Playing in the away team here, you can see it gives the Walthamstow players a massive lift so personally on Saturday and Tuesday, it’ll help me give 110%.
