Mitchell adds Jewers to his back-line

Max Mitchell has added another experienced player to his squad ahead of the 2020/21 season with the signing of Tom Jewers. The centre-half joins the already solid back-line with the likes of Vinny Murphy and Jason Beck committing themselves to next season at the club.

After conversations with the gaffer, Tom felt it was the right time and move for him. “Max played a huge part in getting me involved for the upcoming season” said Tom. “He has put together a very strong side and one that can definitely push for trophies. I think that with the squad that has been put together, we have to be going for the league and push for a strong run in the FA Vase.”

Tom has previosuly played at Step 3 and 4 of the non-league pyramid and has featured for Wales Universities as well as playing in the Welsh Premiership and Division One. “I want to push for titles. I feel like it’s a perfect fit with Max and the club’s ambitions for the season. The pre-season schedule and amount of preparation into fixtures, strength and conditioning shows how seriously Max is taking this year. My competitive nature desire to win should hopefully benefit the team.”

“Playing at a higher level has allowed me to challenge myself against some of the best players in Wales but also the best University players at England, Scotland and Ireland. I’m definitely a big game player and have always enjoyed playing in front of a big support.”

With the new season edging ever closer, there is no doubt that he is excited to get going in a Stow shirt and the tall, athletic centre-half can offer a lot to the squad. “I’m really excited for the new season, I think the pandemic and having no football for a couple of months has all the players raring to go. It’s also my first time playing in the Essex League, so it will be interesting to see what the standard is like.”

“I like to build up play from the back. I’m always willing to give 100% and do my best to help the team” he added.

Whilst it may be too early to see who he’ll have a good relationship with on and off the pitch, he hopes individually, he can play his part. “It’s probably too early to say [who I’m looking forward to playing with] as I haven’t seen a full game yet, but there are some strong new signings and I hope to add something different to their defence.”
