The FA have announced the draws for the opening rounds of this season’s national competitions.
In the FA Cup, Stow will host London Lions in the extra preliminary round. This game is scheduled to be played on Tuesday 1st September, and will in all likelihood be played behind closed doors unless the government makes an announcement on non-league crowds soon.
Lions are based in Barnet, and were eighth in Division 1 of the Spartan Leauge before last season ended prematurely.
The winners of that tie will be at home to either Cockfosters or Stanway Rovers on Saturday 12 September.
In the Vase, we’ve been drawn away to Harwich & Parkeston. It will be our first game with The Shrimpers since 1997, when we beat them 4-1 in the Essex Senior Cup. Perhaps the most famous meetings between the two clubs came in 1901, when as Leyton, we won the Essex Senior Cup 3-0 in a second final replay.
We’ll travel to north Essex who were 10th in Division One South of the Eastern Counties League last season on Saturday 19 September.
The winner of that tie will be at home to our FA Cup opponents, London Lions, in the second qualifying round on Saturday 10 October.
