It has been an historical year for the world of sports. Even if COVID 19 has forced every event to be under closer doors, we witness great sports moments.
Liverpool won a Premier League title for the first time in 30 years. LeBron James went from being pointed as one of the most overrated NBA players of all time, to make history and get the NBA title with Lakers.
So, grabbing this inspiration, Walthamstow might prepare itself to finally get the promotion they been seeking.
The last couple of years have been a test for Walthamstow Town, but they could soon be back on the right path to promotion.
The club have been playing their football in the Essex Senior League since being relegated at the end of the 2013-14 season, but this term could be the season when they finally get back on the right path to the Isthmian League.
It was disappointment in the end at the conclusion of the 2019-20 season, as the coronavirus pandemic meant that the club were unable to continue their push to the top of the league.
The league was concluded with Walthamstow sitting in third place in the standings, as they were just three points off the top of the league.
Only Hashtag United had won more games than the Stags in that campaign, while Walthamstow’s defence was by far the most dominant in the league.
New Season For Walthamstow
It was decided during the height of the pandemic that the division for the 2019-20 would be void, with no promotion or relegation. For Saffron Walden Town, that decision has gone against them, as they are now closer to the middle of the table despite being top when the previous campaign was ended.
Walthamstow have remained competitive so far this season, as they have won five of their eight games in the league. Their defensive record isn’t as good as it was in the previous season, but there are still more than enough reasons for fans to be optimistic about the season ahead.
Walthamstow are in the mix for the promotion places, despite being four points behind at present. They have a game in hand over the current league leaders, Hashtag United.
The league leaders have started quickly this campaign, as they have won eight of their nine fixtures in the Essex Senior League. Meanwhile, Cockfosters currently occupy the second spot in the division, as they have won six of their eight fixtures. Their only defeat to this point has come against Hashtag United.
Hashtag United may be the league leaders, but they have already lost once this season and that defeat was Walthamstow putting down a marker for the season ahead.
It was an excellent performance from the home side on that afternoon, as they took all three points against the league leaders after goals in the second half from Vinny Murphy and Michael Toner.
Still, they will need to build on that performance if they are going to be in the promotion picture this season.
Walthamstow’s Strong Recent Form
Walthamstow have started to find their momentum at this early point of the season, as they have won their last three home games in all competitions.
They have lost once again from home in their last five fixtures, but there are already enough signs for optimism among fans. Walthamstow’s most recent game at home saw them overcome Sawbridgeworth Town 7-0.
It was the best performance of the season from the team, as Callum Ibe scored a hat-trick. Those three goals took his tally for the season to six. That tally means that he is the joint-top scorer at the club alongside Jon Clements.
Clements also found the net in that 7-0 win, as he scored the third goal of the game. There was also a brace in the win for Dwade James and one for Max Mitchell. It was a ruthless display by Walthamstow, and one that shows that they are among the contenders for a promotion place this season.
