Alan McLean

It is with great sadness that we have to report the death of life member Alan McLean who passed away last Thursday following a severe heart attack over the Easter weekend.

Alan, together with his wife Agnes, had been a loyal follower of Waltham Forest for many years. His son Stuart first played for Leyton at The Hare & Hounds and returned to join Leyton Pennant in November 1995 where he became Club captain until injuries took their toll, and he stopped playing in February 1999. We occasionally came up against Stuart’s brother Fraser who sported the Barking colours.

Although Stuart was no longer playing, Alan and Agnes continued to come to most of our games and were made life members of the Club in 2008, and his help on match days with those unsung jobs such as collecting the corner flags after the game will be greatly missed.

Alan had a very dry sense of humour, but had a keen understanding of the game which he would willingly share with the manager in a constructive way, and he was always keen to help the Club.

There will be a 1 minute silence before the kick-off this evening to let us remember Alan.
