Goals from Dwade James, Ollie Fortune, Callum Ibe and Danny McCullock helped Walthamstow to a fantastic win as they brushed aside Enfield in their latest league encounter. The win meant Stow closed the gap on both Saffron Walden Town and Hashtag United with two games in hand.

It was a quick start from Walthamstow and within 10 seconds, Dwade James had put Stow ahead. A poor defensive header allowed James to latch onto the ball and slot it past the goalkeeper. Things got better when, a minute later, James had his second when he turned in the box and fired it in a perfect cross from Danny McCullock.

Stow continued to press and James was unlucky not to have increased his tally. He sent a header just wide before two shots were saved comfortably by the keeper. The pressure paid off and Walthamstow had a third within 20 minutes.

Callum Ibe latched onto a flick from James and spun in the box before firing it into the top corner. Five minutes later, Stow had a fourth and McCullock added to the tally. A pull back from James allowed McCullock to take a touch before slotting it past the helpless keeper.

There were a couple more chances for Walthamstow with Ibe and Billy Jones coming close but neither could find the back of the net whilst a lapse in concentration gave Enfield a goal against the run of play and the first half ended with Stow leading 4-1.

After the interval, Walthamstow started off the quickest and within the first couple of minutes had a chance to increase the lead but the shot was fired over.

Stow continued to dominate and after a couple of good chances, Ollie Fortune grabbed his first goal of the game. Following a Stow free kick, almost everyone on the pitch stopped, thinking the ball had gone out of play. But Gus Douglas picked it up, and James eventually nodded the cross back to Fortune who scored Stow’s fifth with a fine volley.

With 15 minutes left, Fortune had his second when he lashed home from inside the box following a blocked shot from Callum Ibe. Enfield had a rare opportunity but the shot was sent well wide before a couple of Stow chances saw a Fortune shot parried away before the keeper kept a whipped Vinny Murphy free kick out with his face.

James managed to score his hattrick – his second in two games – in the 90th minute when Benji Crilley was brought down in the box. As usual, James stepped up and slotted the home into the bottom corner to give Stow 7-1 victory.
