Walthamstow got back to winning ways in pre-season as they beat Halstead Town by two goals to one. Goals from Jon Clements and George Lataaya were enough despite a late goal from the hosts.
It was Walthamstow who had the earliest chance with a free-kick saved well by the Halstead keeper. It didn’t take long for Walthamstow to break the deadlock when Jon Clements notched his second pre-season. The hos’s were played through but it was a good save from Charlie Crowley before a shot from outside the box was deflected wide.
Early in the second half, Halstead Town were played through once again but a chip was caught well by Crowley. Stow took a foothold in the game as they looked for a second. A shot was cleared off the line before the Halstead keeper collected the ball well a couple of minutes later despite contesting a ball in a box full of Stow players. The pressure paid off and the lead was doubled by George Lutaaya.
Both clubs had a shot tipped over the bar, less than 10-minutes apart but it was the home side who scored the next goal. A 40-yard strike in the 86th minute looped over Crowley’s head with the Stow keeper unable to stop the rocket. Halstead almost equalized in the 90th minute but the forward could not get the decisive touch to sent it past the keeper.
