Walthamstow returned from top of the table Hullbridge with a point, but should have taken all three in a game where their finishing eluded them.
The first half was a pretty drab affair, with long periods of inactivity for both keepers.
Craig Pope went close for Stow, volleying over from a deep Lee Flynn free kick. Other than a scare for Hullbridge when the keeper and defender took each other out trying to clear a loose ball, their goal remained relatively untroubled.
With 50 first half minutes played though, the deadlock was finally broken. Rheo Josephs’ ball from midfield was weighted perfectly for Jeames Peagram to run onto, round the keeper and slot home.
The home side came out with a bit more bite in the second half, and were level after five minutes when Jimmy Cox headed in unmarked following a cross from the right.
It would prove to be Hullbridge’s first and only shot on the target, as an increasingly scrappy game was kept level by two resolute defences.
Peagram could have had a hattrick on another day, but was denied by the keeper twice, and crossbar in injury time.
Jack Leachman also went close, hitting over when off balance following a corner.
But Stow had to take solace in a point from what is always a tough place to visit.
