Dispite reverting to a full strength line-up, Leyton Pennant failed to find their feet against Braintree Town, and no-one was more delighted than John Cheesewright.

The visitors’ goalkeeper signed from Pennant only a fortnight ago and was all smiles as he kept a clean sheet on his first return to Wadham Lodge.

Billy Read and Billy Cove both had early efforts on Cheesewright’s goal, but for most of the match, he was relatively untroubled.

One Read effort was spilled by Cheesewright, but he managed to gather the ball before Cove could bury the rebound.

By that point, the Lilywhites were already two goals behind. Slack marking allowed Braintree to head home their first on 12 minutes and, eight minutes later, Clark Wells was again picking the ball from the back of his net.

Just before half-time, Town effectively ended the game with a third goal after cutting their way diligently through the Pennant defence.

Lilywhites boss Lyndon Lynch said: “The difference was our quality when we had possession.”
