A brace from Dwade James saw Walthamstow beat Sporting Bengal on the road as they leapt above Hashtag United into second place. The win also meant that Stow remain unbeaten on the road in the Essex Senior League.

It was a dominante performance from Stow who started off the quickest. Dwade James gave Walthamstow the lead after just 4 minutes when a cross was fired into the far post. Benji Crilley headed the ball towards goal and the keeper tipped it onto the post before Dwade James tapped home.

Walthamstow kept the pressure up but couldn’t further their lead. Callum Ibe ran in on goal but dragged his shot just wide before a free-kick was swung in and well saved and another cross to the far post met the head of Benji Crilley but was headed out.

Dwade James doubled Stow’s lead just before the 20-minute mark when he headed in from close range. A potential game changing moment saw Boyan Dimchev get booked for a reckless and late challenge on Callum Ibe (although it could’ve been a red).

Sporting Bengal had a couple of chances towards the end of the first half but couldn’t find a goal. The home side almost intercepted a ball from Stow’s defence but it was cleared before Bobby Redwood fired over the bar from the right-hand side after David Vaughan failed to get his shot off.

It was Walthamstow who came out the strongest in the second half but a shot Lewis Francis was over from distance. There was another late challenge, this time Robik Choudhury on Samrai Gebrai, but the referee again awarded a yellow card.

Sporting Bengal were forced into a change with 35-minutes left on the clock when one of their centre-backs taking up the goalkeeping duties after Bilal Khan was forced off. Lewis Francis thought he had scored Stow’s third when he had the ball in the back of the net but it was ruled out for handball in the build-up.

The visitors tried to increase their lead. A cross from Callum Ibe was headed just wide before Dwade James had a shot but it somehow rolled just past the post and Callum Ibe turned and shot but the ball was fired over.

In added time, Steven Carvell’s shot rattled the crossbar before Callum Ibe’s follow-up was over and the game was brought to an end.
