Goals from Dwade James, Billy Jones and Danny McCullock helped Walthamstow to a 3-nil win over St Margaretsbury as they continued their unbeaten run in the league and moved up to 4th in the table.

The first half lacked goal-mouth action as both teams battled in the midfield and failed to find the forward players with the final pass. However, the first effort on goal for Walthamstow came around the 10th minute when Billy Jones headed towards goal but the keeper saved comfortably.

The domination continued from Stow but they couldn’t find the back of the net. A turn and shot from Billy Jones forced a good save from the St Margaretsbury keeper before Danny McCullock tried an effort from the edge of the box but his effort flew over the bar.

The home side had one effort in the first half but an effort from the edge of the box was fired over the bar.

There was a penalty shout when Billy Jones was pushed in the box but it was waved away by the referee. It didn’t take long for a foul to be punished when Stow were awarded a penalty 8 minutes later as Billy Jones was dragged down in the box. Dwade James stepped up and slotted home to give the visitors the lead.

Despite another chance from Danny McCullock, the teams went into the break with Walthamstow leading 1-0.

The second half was very much the same as the first as both sides continued to battle in the midfield and couldn’t find the perfect pass to set the attack players forward. Despite there being no goal-mouth action, Walthamstow dominated as they tried to increase their lead. There was a potential game-changing moment when the St Mag’s skipper when in high on Callum Ibe but the referee awarded a yellow instead of a potential red.

The resulting free-kick was taken by Billy Jones who gave Stow a 2-0 lead around the 60-minute mark when his free-kick from distance caught the keeper off his line and flew over his head.

The domination continued but St Margaretsbury defended well to deny Stow another goal. Charlie Yexley pulled back the ball to Danny McCullock but his two shots were blocked.

Danny McCullock finally had his goal when a good run from Callum Ibe allowed him to find Danny with a pull-back before his effort found the top corner to give Stow a 3-0 lead.

Speaking to Stow manager Ryan Maxwell after the game, he said “I’m pleased with the result and more so with the performance; the fact we got a clean sheet and scored three goals. I think we could’ve got a couple more but with being 1-0 up at half-time, I said I wanted more and I got a good reaction from the boys. We finished the game very strong so I’m delighted.”

[When asked about Saturday’s FA Vase fixture] “At the minute, I don’t know an awful lot about them [the opposition] but I will turn my attention to that tomorrow and Thursday as today we were focused on this game. We will prepare exactly the same as we know as long as we are our professional selves, we can give anyone a game. I would like to thing we have a decent chance to certainly getting through a few rounds. The priority is the league but the FA Vase is a trophy that the boys want to do well in and with the possibility of a Wembley, I will let the boys go full throttle and it’ll be wrong to deny them that opportunity.”
