Walthamstow came unstuck against a resolute Ilford side in the first round of the Essex Senior Cup.
Both sides shared an identical league record, with seven points from four games, but on a night where Stow spurred a hatful of chances, it was Ilford who progressed to the second round.
Despite this, a rotated Stow side opened the brightest, with Billy Jones proving a threat on his debut. The promise was short-lived, as the visitors took the lead when the striker was first to a loose ball following a corner, slotting it into the back of the net.
The game was being mostly played out in midfield, with neither keeper really tested, though Harry Watkins did go inches wide with a powerful effort just before half time.
It took Stow a while to get going in the second half, but once they eventually found their stride, they were guilty of missing chance after chance without testing Rosseti in the Ilford goal.
With 90 minutes played Rosseti made a fine save with his feet to deny Christian Owusu, allowing Ilford to net a second, despite three saves from James Harkin and a clearance off the line from Gus Douglas.
Stow will now concentrate on Saturday’s huge FA Cup tie against Beaconsfield Town.
