Stow and Saffron Walden played out a goalless draw on Saturday afternoon as Walthamstow welcomed their visitors to Wadham Lodge. There were chances in the game for both sides but neither side could take them and the difficult weather conditions certainly played a part. Saffron Walden remain in 2nd behind Hashtag United whilst Walthamstow dropped down to 4th after Hadley won and are now level on points.

The first half saw lack of goal-mouth action although Walthamstow did dominate. Jack Folan had the first shot in the 3rd minute but his effort from the edge of the box was fired over. Both sides battled away in the midfield before Callum Ibe came close from a turn and a shot but it was just over the bar.

There was a penalty shot for the visitors but the referee was unmoved and it wasn’t given. Walthamstow dominated the chances right through to half-time. A chance from Callum Ibe was deflected for a corner after somehow not finding its way into the back of the net before a header sent the ball just over the bar from Benji Crilley. Just before half-time, both Dwade James and Emiel Aiken went for a ball that again somehow didn’t end up in the net before a shot from Danny McCullock from distance was caught on the line. The teams went in at the break level.

It was Walthamstow who began the second half the quickest and within 2 minutes, a shot was fired over by Callum Ibe. The opening minutes were dominated by the home side; a pull-back to Emiel Aiken was cleared before it could reach its target before the ball was almost turned into his own net by a Walden player.

There were a few chances for the visitors but they failed to find the back of the net. A through ball was collected by James Bransgrove before a shot from an angle was fired over. Benji Crilley came close twice. He was inches away for tapping a goal in before he was played through but the keeper did well to block his shot. There was a short period of dominance from Saffron Walden with 15 minutes to go. A shot was dragged wide before James Bransgrove was forced into a good save. As the game edged close to an end, Walthamstow turned up the pressure was couldn’t find the gaps against a defensively good side and the game ended 0-0.
