Walthamstow progressed to the next round of the FA Cup with a fine performance over Eastern Counties League side Walsham-Le-Willows.

Stow came into the game on the back of a 5-1 win over West Essex, while Walsham won 2-0 in the week, but reportedly had a pretty arduous journey getting to the Lodge come Saturday afternoon.

Stow came out of the blocks flying, and were ahead by the 7th minute. Junior Appiah nicked the ball in midfield, and some good work with James Peagram down the wing allowed the latter to slip in Rheo Josephs with acres of space in front of goal. Josephs composed himself, and despite a touch from the keeper, the ball looped in and over the line.

Josephs had a couple more chances before the half was done, but blazed over on two occasions. Stow were also looking dangerous from corners, as they had done in the week.

From the second half kick off, Walsham could barely get out of their own penalty area, let alone their half, and Junior Appiah doubled Stow’s lead with what could already be a goal of the season contender.

Peagram was again the supplier as he cut back for Appiah to stun everyone and finish into the bottom corner with a Ronald chop-esque touch.

There was time for the visitors to get back in the game though, as Ryan Clark scored with a sensational finish, landing just inside the angle of the post and bar, from the edge of the box.

After a spell of Walsham pressure, Stow upped their game again. Peagram had an effort blocked on the line with a hand, before Ryan Ramsay – who had another superb game – hit the inside of the post with a curling effort.

Christian Owusu then beat a couple of players and then forced a superb save from the Walsham Keeper.

At the other end, James Harkin had to be alert to pull off a fine save of his own as a wicked deflection almost crept in at the far post.

But in the 83rd minute, Peagram made sure of the victory, smashing home a rebound after Tony DaSilva’s initial effort was blocked.

Another fine performance from Ryan Maxwell’s men, who on another day, could have had five or six.

Stow will now be away to Felixstow and Walton in the next round.
