Ilford – Waltham Forest Preview 15/1/11
After last weekend’s local derby with Leyton, Wale Ojelabi’s side face their landlords, Ilford, tomorrow in the Ryman League Division 1. Forest know that a win would drag them out of the relegation places for the first time since September.
Ilford are one of only three sides below Forest in the 6-match form table (Heybridge Swifts and Leyton being the others), but with only a draw separating the two sides’ records, there will not be much to separate the two sides come Tuesday.
The reverse match of this fixture was the first game of the season – a bright August day, where everyone was looking forward to the new season. The game was a 2-2 draw, with Billy Ellis and Spencer Harrison both scoring late goals to bring Forest back from behind twice in the second half. Since then, both sides have failed to pick up any real form, and both find themselves in familiar territory – in the relegation dog-fight at the foot of the table.
After the flurry of signings by Wale Ojelabi last week it is hoped that now that they have had more time together, they will be able to build on last Saturday’s 1-0 win over the seemingly doomed Leyton. Ilford meanwhile have re-signed Wesley Hause and Steven Collins, but have not played in the league since the 3rd of January, as their match last weekend with Redbridge was postponed.
