Thamesmead Town Preview – 12-2-11
Tomorrow, we travel to the relatively new Bayliss Avenue, where we will face Thamesmead Town for the second time this season. In the reverse of this fixture, Thamesmead took the three points, winning 2-1 after we had gone 1-0 up through Des Thomas. We have only played Thamesmead six times since their move to the Ryman League, and have lost all four home games against them. However, somewhat encouragingly, we have won both games played at Bayliss Avenue: winning 1-0 in April 2010 and 2-1 in October 2008.
Since our string of good results against Leyton, Iford, Great Wakering and Sudbury, our form has faltered, and we have failed to pick up any points in our last three games. However, we are now back with Ian Luck as he has completed his suspension. Whether Luck will start or not, will be down to Wale Ojelabi, but five goals in four games will put him in strong contention.
While our form may have faltered, Thamesmead’s in the last six matches is nothing short of terrible. Other than a 1-1 draw with Cheshunt, they have lost five of their last 6 games, and have only Leyton below them in the form table. (That’s if Leyton can be counted.)
Thamesmead’s current form is a far cry from their early season form which saw them rise as high as second in the table.
Thamesmead will once again have Danny Moore in their squad, who played for us during the 2002-3 season, making 14 starts and scoring once, in the 1-1 draw with Tilbury.

By Road:
Make your way via A13 or A102 to Blackwall Tunnel. Go through the Tunnel and turn onto the A206 (Woolwich Road). Stay on the A206 for about 3 miles and join the A2016 (Western Way). Stay on the A2016 for about 1 ½ miles and join the A 2041 (Carlyle Road). After ¼ mile turn right into Crossway anf then third right into Bayliss Avenue. There is a reasonable amount of parking space at the Ground.
By Public Transport:
Make your way to Stratford and take the Jubilee Line to Canning Town. Then take the Docklands Light Railway to Woolwich Arsenal. From Bus Stop N catch bus 472 towards Thamesmead Central. Alight in Crossway at Stop NB. Cross over and Bayliss Avenue is on the right. As an alternative you can stay on the Jubilee Line to North Greenwich and catch bus 471 from there.
