Waltham Forest 1-3 Wadham Lodge

Waltham Forest are firmly rooted to the bottom of the table after a frustrating performance against Wadham Lodge.

In testing conditions, Forest started the brighter, and should have gone ahead when Jose Agua pounced on a poor back pass. He rounded Danny Mulrooney, but the Wadham keeper recovered in time to save Agua’s effort.

With 19 minutes played Andrea Mantovani gave Wadham the lead. His long-range effort seemed to travel to the centre of the goal, but the pace on his shot beat debutant Alexandru Catana in the Forest goal.

Forest came out for the second half showing a bit more intent, but lost any hope of a victory when Miguel Lopes de Matos weakly pushed over a Wadham forward in the box, leaving the referee with no hesitation in pointing to the spot.

The penalty was well saved by Catana, who even followed up a rebound effort, but Charlie Georgiou finished off at the third attempt with a close-range header.

An hour into the game Janel Alexander secured the points with a powerful back-post header.

Jose Agua clawed a goal back for Forest five minutes later but some extremely wasteful finishing and some appalling passing meant Forest couldn’t salvage anything form a game they deserved to lose.
