Waltham Forest 2-2 Cheshunt

Waltham Forest ended a torrid February with a hard-fought point against an attacking Cheshunt side.

Manu Dagher gave the home side the lead just over a quarter of an hour into the game. The Liberian international was given too much time in the box to bring down George Lutanya’s cross, before firing home, giving the ‘keeper no chance.

Cheshunt then got back into the match for the first time as a result of some indiscipline from Forest. David Greene was taken down just inside the box by Manny Sackey – and though there was certainly contact with the Cheshunt forward, the decision of a penalty was perhaps a tad harsh as Sackey thought he had won the ball fairly.

John Megilks calmly fired the resulting spot-kick into the top corner, leaving Ramos with no chance.

The visitors were proving to be very shaky when defending set-pieces, and Forest had two chances just before half time to take the lead again.

After only partially clearing a corner, George Lutanya’s looping shot hit the underside of the bar, while Chris Taylor’s rebound was kept out magnificantly by the Cheshunt ‘keeper.

Forest’s second goal was Cheshunt’s undoing. After failing to clear a cross, Adrian Clifton’s fine first touch allowed him to poke the ball home in some style.

However, Forest’s lead was short-lived, and Cheshunt leveled again with a close-range header after Forest did not react to a free-kick.

Both sides had chances to win the match in the dying moments, with Stanley going close for Forest, and a fine save from Ramos keeping the score level at the other end.
