Walthamstow fell to defeat at Wadham Lodge on Tuesday after a 1-0 loss against Gorleston.
It was another case of Stow not playing bad, but struggling to create anything in the final third.
The first ten minutes were dominated by Stow, who were stringing good passes and looked going forward but nothing came out of it. The closest Stow came to taking the lead was James Collins laying the ball off for Gassem Benelghazi whose shot flew just wide of the post.
After that chance, it was a pretty dire first half. It turned very scrappy and neither side could produce anything of real danger. Luke Mewitt made a few good saves from Gorleston’s long throws which were headed on by defender Joe Jefford. Stow’s goalkeeper made a great save from point blank range to deny Aaron Bullent, but he was flagged offside.
The second half continued the same way as the first half ended, with neither team looking for the opener. Riley England continued to put good crosses into the penalty area where there was no one in blue to fire home. Stow kept piling on the pressure with Jordan Peart creating a few opportunities. His effort in the box was blocked and cleared, and the left back found Joden Trickett in the box but he was denied by goalkeeper Antoni Bort.
On the 70th minute mark, the visitors went in front. Gorleston’s long throws kept causing confusion for the Stow defence, leading Luke Johnson to head the ball home unmarked at the back post.
Despite the setback, Stow continued to search for a goal. Substitute Luke Warner-Eley’s delivery was missed by both Elijah Grant and Keano Robinson in the box, and James Collins’ effort was easily saved by Gorleston’s goalkeeper.
Luke Warner-Eley came close again in the 90th minute when Gassem Benelghazi was fouled outside the area. His free kick crashed against the post and was cleared away.
Walthamstow’s search for an equaliser was unsuccessful, and the visitors managed to hold on to the three points. Stow now have a run of two away games, starting with a trip to AFC Sudbury this weekend.
