Walthamstow 2-0 Takeley

Walthamstow made it three wins on the bounce thanks to a comfortable 2-0 win at home against Takeley.

It was a game of very few opportunities for either side, but Stow took the ones that mattered to pick up the three points.

Stow started the first half brightly with Rasheed Salau’s cross just missing Joe Gregory and Umaru Kabia in the box, and Brian Garzon’s shot flying just over the crossbar.

It seemed as if both teams would go into the break level, but that wouldn’t be the case thanks to Kabia’s first goal in s tow colours. Garzon’s ball forward found the winger one on one with Jarvis Monk. Kabia neatly lofted the ball over the Takeley goalkeeper and into the net giving Stow a vital lead before half time.

The second half started with Stow again on the front foot. Keano Robinson’s cross was aimed at Callum Ibe, but he couldn’t reach it and it rolled out for a goal kick.

Stow continued to press for a second but were unable to find the target. Garzon’s corner was flicked on by Chris John into the path of Gregory who headed wide, and Demi Elegushi’s shot from distance was saved by Monk.

Stow were shockingly not awarded a penalty, when Robinson’s long throw was slapped by the Takeley defender right in front of the referee. However, nothing was given.

With five minutes from time, Stow got their second of the afternoon which killed the game. Callum Ibe skipped past Jordan Wescott with ease and found Teddy Stacey in the box who fired home for his first goal in Stow colours.

Walthamstow now sit a comfortable six points above the relegation zone and take on high flying Stanway Rovers on Friday night for the last home game of the year.
