Walthamstow host Gorleston at Wadham Lodge on Tuesday in the Isthmian League.
This fixture was meant to be played on Saturday 5th September, but due to Gorleston’s progression in the FA Cup, the game was rescheduled.
Both sides were in FA Trophy action on the weekend, with Stow travelling to Welwyn Garden City and Gorleston away at Newmarket Town. Unfortunately for Stow, they were knocked out after a 2-1 loss. It was a good performance from Stow, but defensive mistakes cost them once again. They did take the lead right after half time where Joden Trickett’s header couldn’t be kept out by former Stow goalkeeper Connor Samson, to give Stow the lead. However, it didn’t last long as Welwyn levelled through Eddie Corbit who pounced on a loose pass and was found unmarked in the box to fire home the equaliser. The hosts went in front fifteen minutes from time where Kendall Gyamfi spotted Luke Mewitt off his line and calmly lobbed the ball over and into the net to give Welwyn the lead and a place in the next round of the Trophy.

Gorleston were away at fellow Isthmian North side Newmarket Town, where they were dismantled 5-2. The Jockeys went in front 12 minutes in through Ben Nolan, but were pegged back level when Antoni Bort found the net. Newmarket found themselves 3-1 up at the break after goals each from Jack Palmer and Taylor Kilinc. The hosts went four up through Palmer’s second, and their fifth goal scored by Josh Lee. Gorleston pulled one back in the 89th minute through Luke Johnson.
The Greens have had a good start to their season, as they sit sixth in the Isthmian League. They beat Canvey Island and Fakenham Town, drew against Little Oakley and lost to Redbridge. Gorleston beat Stotfold in the First Qualifying Round of the FA Trophy, but were knocked out by Newmarket. In the Cup, they thrashed Mildenhall Town 6-1 and Step 3 side Leighton Town 4-1 away from home. They will now face Bury Town in the next round.
Previous meetings
The two games last season were managed by two different Stow managers. Vinny Murphy’s side travelled up to Great Yarmouth on a cold November evening, where they drew 1-1 in front of a bustling crowd of 65 people. Stow went in front through last season’s top scorer Brian Garzon a quarter of an hour in, but the Greens drew level through Zach Dronfield’s equaliser in the 72nd minute. Gorleston skipper Joe Jefford was sent off late on after receiving a second yellow card. In the reverse fixture, Gorleston were two goals up at half time thanks to Spencer Keller and Alby Matthews. Rasheed Salau pulled one back for Stow in the 72nd minute, one minute before Joe Marsden was shown a second yellow card and was sent off for the visitors. It gave Stow a glimmer of hope to salvage a point but they weren’t able to.
