The Lilywhites earned themselves an away tie with Clacton Town in the next round of the FA Cup courtesy of first half-goals from Billy Cove and Jay Notley despite a spirited second-half display from Burnham Ramblers.
The Lilywhites had a good start when, after six minutes, Jamie Richards left the home defenders for dead, took the ball to the byline and crossed for Billy Cove to rise above the defence and head home.
The Lilywhites began to take control of the match with Campbell, Richards and Cove all putting the home defence on the back foot.
This could have been the signal for Ramblers to fold but they were having nothing of it, yet despite their pressure they couldn’t get past the majestic Lilywhites defence or in-form keeper Russell Ling.
Ramblers’ Danny Greaves should have scored on 29 minutes when Fitzgerald’s deft cross found him on the Lilywhites six-yard-box, but Greave’s point-blank shot brought out the first of many excellent saves from Ling.
On 37 minutes Pennant doubled their lead when Scott DeGaris and Jay Notley combined to allow the latter to score a great goal.
Ramblers spent much of the second half attacking the Leyton Pennant goal but the Lilywhites were resolute in defence and stood firm for the win.
