Walthamstow v Canvey Island preview

Walthamstow take on Canvey Island this weekend in the Isthmian League at Wadham Lodge.

This is Stow’s last home game for two weeks, so make sure you don’t miss it!

Stow were in midweek action on Tuesday night as they hosted Witham Town. Neither side could find the net as the game finished 0-0. It was a fair result, with both sides having chances to go in front but were unable to take them.

Our visitors – The Gulls

Canvey’s return to Step 4 after four years away hasn’t been the easiest, with the Gulls sacking manager Garry Kimble just a few weeks into the season – replacing him with Kevin Horlock, who took Maldon & Tiptree to the Isthmian Premier League last season. Canvey currently sit midtable in 12th, with their record currently standing at 5 won, 3 drawn and 6 lost.

On Tuesday night, Canvey hosted other promotion favourites Hashtag United and claimed three points in a 2-1 win thanks to returning striker Sam Bantick’s brace in the first half. Harrison Day pulled one back in second half injury time for Hashtag, but it was too little, too late.

In the cup competitions, Canvey reached the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Cup after beating Kings Langley and Newmarket Town, but were knocked out by National League South side Chelmsford City. The Gulls progressed to the Third Qualifying Round of the FA Trophy after eliminating two Isthmian North sides Grays Athletic and Cambridge City, but they were stopped at the hands of Step 3 side Needham Market. Canvey’s Essex Senior Cup campaign this season will be one to forget as they were thrashed 6-0 by Hullbridge Sports.
