Not even three keepers can stop Forest’s Gabriel!
DANNY GABRIEL netted a hat-trick for Waltham Forest against Leyton on Saturday afternoon – with each of the goals being scored against a different goalkeeper, writes Billy Shaw.
Statisticians are checking the record books after Leyton’s two recognized keepers both had to be carried off, leaving centre-half Bradley Falco to don the gloves for the remaining half-hour of Forest’s 3-1 win.
Gabriel beat first choice keeper Elliot Justham on 20 minutes to put Forest into the lead.
But when Justham suffered bruised ribs and was carted off in an ambulance, substitute stopper Luke Stanford went between the sticks.
He was duly beaten by Gabriel on 56 minutes, but shortly afterwards he pulled his hamstring in an off-the-ball incident and was also carried off.
That left defender Falco wearing the gloves, and after Leyton pulled a goal back, Gabriel converted a penalty past him to seal a remarkable feat.
