Advent Calendar 2015: Day 21: Braintree Town 8-2 Leyton Pennant

The 1998-9 season saw Braintree gain revenge for Pennant’s 2-1 Eastern Floodlit Trophy final victory the previous season.

Town had just gained promotion from the Icis League Division 2, and would finish fourth in their first season in Division 1.

Little can be found on the online records of this harrowing defeat for Pennant, other than Billy Read and Billy Cove scoring a goal each. Gary Bennett scored six for the home side.

The defeat sparked somewhat of a revolution at Pennant, as they would go on to win four and draw two of their next six games (they then lost six out of the next seven).
