Advent Calender 2015: Day 7 – Waltham Forest 5-3 Ware

Ware are one of the teams Waltham Forest have played the most in recent history. Since 1997, the two sides have met 17 times – Forest winning only six of these.

However, one of these wins came on the last day of February of 2009.

After the resignation of Ged Searson, Forest had gone through a number of managers before Wale Ojelabi eventually took over, hoping to rescue Forest’s season.

The win over Ware came in the middle of a run of only one defeat in ten games, which eventually saw them finish seven points above the relegation places.

Ware, on the hand, finished a very respectable 8th, rendering Forest’s 5-3 victory all the more impressive.

Spencer Harrison got Forest’s first on 11 minutes, before two quick goals after half time from Kye Ruel and Gaz Dauti.

Yacine Hamada then scored on 79 and 88 to secure the three points for Forest.

Went on to better things

After leaving Forest at the end of the 2008-9 season, Kye Ruel has been a mainstay in the East Thurrock United team in the Ryman Premier.

Disappeared from view

Guy Lopez got injured a week after this game. He made a recovery before getting injured again in a pre-season game against Thurrock the following summer. He hasn’t been seen playing senior non-league since.
