AFC Sudbury 3-0 Walthamstow

Walthamstow were defeated on Saturday afternoon at AFC Sudbury in a 3-0 loss.

Once again, it was a case of Stow not playing badly but defensive mistakes being the cause of all three goals.

Stow looked the brighter side in the first fifteen, up until the hosts took the lead in the 16th minute. Reuben Chinnery found himself on the edge of the box, and his volley went straight through the hands of goalkeeper Anton Robinson to give the hosts the lead.

Danny Cowlin received his first start stepping up from the reserves and showed his attacking threat when he was played through on goal but his shot was saved by Sudbury goalkeeper Finley Iron.

The hosts doubled their lead right after Stow’s chance with Reuben Chinnery getting his second of the game. Anton Robinson’s save was pounced onto by the Sudbury striker who slotted the ball home to double their lead.

Like Tuesday, Stow began the second half on the front searching for a goal. They came close on two occasions when Joden Trickett and Keano Robinson’s headers both flew wide of the goal.

Up the other end, Sudbury cancelled any bit of Stow’s hope and made it 3-0. Miscommunication between goalkeeper Anton Robinson and Luke Warner-Eley gave Tom Maycock an open goal to roll the ball into and make it 3-0 to the hosts. Sudbury continued to pile on the pressure, with left back George Keys firing over the bar on the edge of the box.

Stow looked a lot better when substitute Elijah Grant was brought onto the pitch, giving that attacking presence that Stow needed. He came close when he headed the ball over the crossbar, as did Shaun Mavididi when his volley flew over and Keano Robinson’s effort in the fifth minute of added time curled wide.

It was another disappointing defeat for Walthamstow, who travel to Redbridge on Tuesday to take on top of the league Hashtag United.
