AFC Sudbury v Walthamstow preview

Walthamstow face off against AFC Sudbury this weekend, for the first time since 2014.

It’s been a tough start to the season for both sides, with Sudbury coming into the Isthmian North Division after being relegated from Step 3 last season. Both teams are out of both FA competitions and sit two places away in the league table.

Stow were in league action in midweek, hosting Gorleston on Tuesday night. It was another performance which wasn’t bad, but wasn’t great with a lack of attacking threat on display. Stow struggled to create anything in the final third, only mustering a few shots on target. Gorleston took advantage and scored the only goal of the game, when Luke Johnson was found at the back post unmarked in the second half.

Sudbury’s season hasn’t got off the way they would’ve liked, as they sit 20th in the league table and are out of three cup competitions. They were defeated in the FA Cup by Cambridge City, beat Lowestoft Town in the Trophy but lost to Ware, and were hammered 4-0 by Newmarket Town in the Isthmian League Cup on Tuesday night. It was another comfortable win for the Jockeys, where Josh Lee scored a hattrick, added on by a goal from Lennon King.

Their last league game was their only league win this season, where they beat newly promoted Little Oakley 3-0 away from home. Tom Maycock’s opener in the second half gave them the lead, before a brace from Reuben Chinnery secured the three points.
