Aveley 2-1 Waltham Forest

Aveley avenged their defeat earlier in the season with victory in an unispiring encounter at Mill Field.

Forest opened the brighter of the two sides, and raced into a fourth minute lead. Ahmed Mohammad’s through ball was perfect for Joel Palmer who held off Carl Blake and poked the ball home.

However, as the first half continued, Aveley got back into the match, and were rewarded with an equalizer on 34 when Jay Leader was allowed to head home unmarked at the back post.

The winner came in slightly dubious circumstances. Arian Retkoceri was punished for an off the ball collision, and Carl Blake’s deflected off the wall, wrong-footing Barratt in the Forest goal.

Indeed, those closer to the action confirmed that while the award of the free kick was questionable, the challenge took place inside the penalty area.

Forest huffed and puffed in the second half, but could not find any killer instinct. When they did manage to break Aveley’s defence, Ferai’s Hallam was adjudged offside.
