Away Notes: Maldon Town
For the first game of the season (and hopefully for all forthcoming away games), Forest supporter Graham Larkby will be providing notes on the best pubs in the area that Forest will be visiting. Graham has started with Maldon Town.
“We kick off the season with one of the away-travel highlights of the Ryman. Maldon is a delightfully unspoiled, historic riverside town with no fewer than three Good Beer Guide-listed pubs:
Blue Boar, Silver Street: lovely old 15th-century coaching inn in the town centre, by the church and the bus stop if you’re arriving from Chelmsford (buses half-hourly). Adnams and Crouch Vale, plus Farmer’s Ales from the brewery behind the pub. Food served. A must-visit! Website: www.blueboarmaldon.co.uk
Swan Hotel, High Street: Lively town-centre pub, handily situated between the Blue Boar and the ground. Fullers, Greene King, Woodforde’s guest beers. Food.
Queens Head, The Hythe: Quayside pub with riverside views and outside drinking area. Adnams, Greene King, Timothy Taylor’s, Woodforde’s, and Maldon’s own Mighty Oak beers. Food. Website: www.thequeensheadmaldon.co.uk
And as a bonus, the football club bar has a Greene King pump, hopefully to aid celebration of a winning Forest start!”
