“Back to The Lodge!” A song for our return

Five long years ago, Graham Larkbey and the Escape Committee recorded “The People’s Game”, a protest song bemoaning what modern football had become. The third verse focused on our eviction from Wadham Lodge, and subsequent homelessness:

We just played our last game on our home ground,
Next week we’re being evicted, we’re being kicked out of town,
Is it right that some businessman can say?
You gotta play your home games 40 miles away

Well now we’re back! And to mark the occasion, Graham and his banned have penned a song to mark our return!

Five long years was way too long
With no home of our own, but we still carried on
Times got hard and times got tough
Things got worse and things got rough
But despite it all our spirits stayed high
Waltham Forest never say die

We’re coming home again
The Forest are on their way
Back to the Lodge
It’s the dawning of a brand new day

Now we’ve pulled through, we’ve weathered the storm
The darkest hour is just before dawn
A brand new season, we’re back at home
We’ll give it our best shot, we’re raring to go
So bring it on, we’re ready to fly
Waltham Forest never say die

We’re coming home again
The Forest are on their way
Back to the Lodge
It’s the dawning of a brand new day
