Cambridge City 2-0 Walthamstow

Walthamstow’s Bank Holiday Monday fixture ended in a 2-0 loss away at Cambridge City.

Stow had an early opportunity to get in front just 12 minutes in. Pedro Carvalho who got his first goal for the club on Saturday caused trouble for City right back Giani Ashley, getting past him with ease and sending a low cross into the box which rolled behind Samir Ali.

It was the hosts who got the first goal of the afternoon through captain Jayden Randell after a corner was swung into the box which was cleared away only as far as the City captain standing on the penalty spot to fire home past David Hughes.

Five minutes later and Cambridge made it two. A deep free kick aimed at the far post was headed on by Randell into the path of Joseph Boachie who controlled the ball on his thigh and calmly slotted home to double their lead.

Stow were slowly getting back into the game as Carvalho got past the defender and cut inside but his shot lacked power and rolled into the hands of goalkeeper James Philp.

The Second half started with Stow on the front foot winning a free kick from a very wide angle which was swung in by Te Wihongi and nearly crept in but was pushed out by James Philp.

Midway through the second half and Stow had a huge chance to get one back. Gassem Benelghazi’s shot took a deflection which crashed against the post into the path of Pedro Carvalho who struck the bar from 6 yards out.

Ten minutes from time and Cambridge could’ve made it three with a rebounded shot from former Stow man Solomon Ofori which was well saved by David Hughes.

Stow still without a win this season make the trip to VCD Athletic on Saturday in the Isthmian League Cup.
