Clean sheet for new-look Pennant
LEYTON Pennant kept their fourth clean sheet in the league in five games as they took a point from local rivals Romford.
The Lilywhites made four changes from the team that lost at Worthing the week before.
Colin Halpin came in for his first full senior game to replace Phil Lovell, Cyril Baffour replaced the injured Tyrone Hercules at left back, Sid Nelson returned for John Lowe while Kevin Riley was given another start up front for the rested Che Stadhart.
The visitors could have opened the scoring in the first minute when Billy Read burst through but hit his shot straight at Horne in the home goal.
Ball control was extremely difficult on a terrible pitch although that cant be blamed for one Romford miss in the eighth minute.
A speculative shot bounced off the chest of the otherwise excellent Leyton Pennnant keeper Ian Brooks and Benstock lifted the rebound over the bar from six yards.
Five minutes later Brooks redeemed himself with a superb dive and catch from a fierce Fulling shot.
The second half belonged to Romford as they forced corners at a regular rate although Pennant defended well and competed for everything in midfield.
Brooks made one great stop from Willock while Jason Gerraghty cleared one effort off the line.
Near the end Stadhart replaced Riley and the Lilywhites had a couple of late chances to snatch the points.
Leyton Pennant: Brooks, Halpin, Baffour, M. Salmon, Silk, P. Salmon, Gerraghty, Nelson, Riley (Stadhart), Cove, Read. Lowe & Fenton (not used).
Five league victories in March earned Pennant boss Trevor Harvey the First Division Manager of the Month award.
