Clean sheet king Bransgrove signs up

Walthamstow have secured one of, if not their biggest signing of the close-season, both literally and figuratively, with the news that goalkeeper James Bransgrove will return for the 2019-20 season.

Bransgrove joined the club in January 2019, and made an instant impact between the sticks, making an impressive debut in a tempestuous 3-1 win over Saffron Walden.

He went on to play 20 games last season, winning 70% of them, and keeping 11 clean sheets in the process.

Speaking to the club’s website, the former Scotland U21 international said: “I’m delighted to have signed on again, this time for the full season.

“All I have wanted to do since returning to football is enjoy it, and that’s exactly what I’ve done since joining Walthamstow.

“[Stow Manager] Maxy has been great since day one, appreciating my circumstances with work and uni and the least I could do was repay him by committing for the 19/20 season!

“Coming in half way through last year we had a very tough task of earning promotion, we almost achieved it.

“I’d love to contribute again to the team and club to go one step better this season and seal the league title and ultimately promotion!”

And Maxwell himself was quick to heap praise on his Number 1: “I’ve no doubt James is the best in the league, and to have him stay, turning down a number of Isthmian League clubs his a really flattering for Walthamstow.

“It’s fantastic that James is committing to us again this season, and it’s a huge boost”
