Concord Rangers 2-0 Walthamstow
Walthamstow fell to defeat on the road on Saturday after a 2-0 loss at Concord Rangers.
On another day, Stow could’ve picked up a point displaying a performance worthy of a draw.
The blues could’ve taken the lead through Keano Robinson when Fatih Mustafa’s free kick found the defender at the far post, but his header was originally saved by goalkeeper Charlie Brown and fired over on the rebound.
But up the other end, Concord took the lead when Kai Torres found himself in front of goal and slotted the ball past Luke Mewitt to give the hosts the lead.
Stow were looking to get back into the game and kept producing chances, with James Collins and Joden Trickett being denied by goalkeeper Brown, and Nathan Smith firing over the bar after the ball had fell for him in the box.
However, it went downhill for Stow as they were reduced to 10 men when goalkeeper Luke Mewitt was shown a straight red card. The Stow number one handled the ball outside the box, after forward Toheeb Elegushi had dinked the ball over him giving the referee no other choice but to send Mewitt for an early shower. Defender Keano Robinson stepped in goal for the second time in a Stow shirt – last time was in February when David Hughes was sent off.
The defender now goalkeeper made some good saves between the nets, pushing away Kai Torres’ effort to make it 2-0 before half time. In the second half, Robinson was called to the rescue again when Elegushi’s shot was pushed out to Mekhi McKenzie who was denied by a great block from substitute Rickie Hayles.
Hayles came close to levelling the scoreline when his header from a corner was destined for the back of the net, but was deflected over by former Stow midfielder Demi Elegushi.
Despite all the pressure, Concord made it 2-0 and wrapped up the three points. Jordan Peart’s loose pass found Toheeb Elegushi who was denied by Robinson, but the ball fell for substitute Khris Oti who fired the ball home.
It was a tough defeat for Stow, who will feel like they shot themselves in the foot. It’s another quick turnaround for Stow, who take on Bowers & Pitsea at Wadham Lodge on Tuesday night.
