Downham Town 0-0 Walthamstow

Walthamstow shared the points with Downham Town on Saturday after a 0-0 stalemate in the Isthmian League.

It was a game of very few chances for either side, with both teams still probably unable to score if the game had continued.

Stow started better but Downham came very close to taking the lead. Charlie Royle drove into the box, and his cross found Dylan Kirk unmarked at the back post, but he fired his shot into the side netting.

Up the other end of the pitch, Stow came close on two occasions when Rasheed Salau’s free kick was blocked but fell for Callum Ibe to volley wide, and Shawn Joseph’s long throw fell for Keano Robinson who forced a save from goalkeeper Charlie Congreve.

The hosts came even closer and hit the woodwork on the 34th minute. A long throw in was headed down by captain Matthew Castellan who laid it off for Artus Visocanskis who smashed the ball against the crossbar.

The second half was a similar story to Tuesday’s game against Cambridge City, with a lot of back and forth play and no big opportunities. Stow were reduced to 10 men in the 61st minute when substitute Chama Torsiello went in for a challenge on Artus Visocanskis.

Walthamstow move up to 14th in the league table and sit five points outside the relegation zone and take on high flying Gorleston next Saturday.
