Familiar faces return for start of Walthamstow Veterans

Walthamstow are delighted to announce that they will be fielding two teams in the Essex Veterans League next season.

And there will be a familiar look to the Stow sides, as a number of old friends form the core of the over 35s, which played as Jubilee Sports last season.

Jay Abberley, Ben Cooper, Vinny Durrant, Wes Jackman, Leon McKenzie, Ryan Oliva, Ellis Remy, Jamie Richards, Ashley Wackers, Darryl Wilson and Cary Wright all featured for Jubliee last season and have played for Walthamstow, Waltham Forest, or in Cooper, Jackman and Richards’ case, even Leyton Pennant throughout the years.

The over 35s finished third in Division One (West) of the Essex Veterans League last season, which is stacked with players who have played professionally or in the higher reaches of non-league. Patrick Agyemang, who will be playing for Stow next season, made over 400 Football League appearances as a pro and has international caps for Ghana.

The side will be managed by former Stow player Kieran King. King had two spells playing for the club, including a crucial return at the end of the 2017-18 season, helping the club avoid relegation from the Essex Senior League.

The club will also be fielding an over 45s side in the Essex Veterans League.

While Stow hasn’t consistently fielded a veterans side, when they have, they have been extremely successful. Some recent honours include:

  • 2003-4: All England Veterans Cup
  • 2007-8: London Veterans Cup
  • 2016-17: Essex Veterans Cup
  • 2017-18: Essex Veterans Cup
